Together with Hand Saw Press we made a riso print poster to remember the garden:
The poster has a photo of the garden on one side and the text 'gesamthof a lesbian garden' on the other side. During my artist residency at Hand Saw Press I met Abe Fu, who helped me to create this design. Fu let me make so many tests, over and over I would ask her: can I try this? Can we change this? Can use this colour? Can I make a 2 colour, 3 colour, 4 colour print? This is how I learned to make design for riso, not just the technique but also the possibilities so typical for riso machines.
It is through this process of trial and error, and with the gentle guidance and expertise by Fu that this design could take shape. I'm so grateful for this experience, and for the support of Hand Saw Press.
The poster is A3 rice ink riso print on Japanese ecofriendly FSC paper.
On Sunday 21 September was the last queer garden session in Gesamthof in Antwerp. The garden was cared for from 2019 - 2025 and will live on in many other people's gardens. To remember this place we made the poster as a souvenir.
You can find this poster in Japan at Hand Saw Press: https://handsawpress.stores.jp/
The photo below was taken by artist and researcher Margo Veeckman on the last queer gardening session, while I was giving away the plants. What made the Gesamthof so special was the unique combination of queer people and plants, a true joy.
